Have hat, can party

Veronica Bowker, my friend of 40 years, wanted to be vintage-i-fied for Iona Stopford's 80th birthday tea at Memory Lane a while ago.
This black coctail hat belonged to my late aunt Johanna van der Walt who wore it in the 50's and 60's to evening do's in the Karoo.

Poetry surprise

When I attended my writer's club dinner on Friday evening, I did not anticipate
coming home with an award. This shield has found a place among my 20th century shoe collection.

Soft toys on the run ...

Yesterday Kia left the Verandah in the rain to join the hundreds of bikers and friends
partaking in the annual toy run. Here she is with the menagerie we collected the past two months.

Goodbye to paycheque!

I suffer from this nasty condition called AGE, so last night I had to take leave from my part-time position with the NMMU Library Service.

One of my colleagues, Sharon Moolman, is also plagued by this condition and we had to do the "system shut-down" together for the last time.
Take a look at these two many talented, multi-skilled, healthy individuals and weep for the NMMU's loss of knowlege, wisdom, loyalty and patience!

Fortunately our young colleague Rosemarie Roth will still be there next year to continue our legacy.

Rose and I had a very special arrangement and it made Thursdays, when we were on duty together, exceptionally memorable.
She used to fetch me in the "chariot" (her Atos) and delivered me at my front door every Thursday evening at 20.15.

Life after burglary ...

Our home  was targeted by burglars and we had to upgrade security.
After blade wire was erected on the border walls, the back yard looked like an exercise quad for prisoners. Fortunately I could bring out the box of plastic toys to decorate the bleak scenery.  Here are the results ...

Hairdresser comes to lunch

When Anton Hay from Edge Living enters your front door, thing sdo not go as expected. This free spirit is an expert at colour, a psychology honours student and a single father. His salon is a very positive space and he and 7-year-old Emerson lives "on top of it all".
Anton came to Sunday lunch with his daughter Emerson. They were joined by some of  my other Richmond Hill friends Gideon, Samantha and Nina. Anton started playing seriosly as he entered our home ... he immediately donned one of the outfits on show in the passage....
Hier lyk hy soos 'n towenaar met die uitrusting se blou en goue mantel. Somtyds wonder ek: is hy my harekapper of my hare-"krapper".
